Baylor Scott & White Neurosurgery and Spine Associates is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for a nocturnist position in their practice at the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, providing comprehensive care to patients with disorders of the brain, spine, and peripheral nervous system.

This position requires a strong focus on patient care and service. Individuals who are self‑motivated, hardworking, detail oriented, and adhere to clinical protocols are encouraged to apply.

Primary Responsibilities

First assist with posterior occiput/cervical/thoracic/lumbar pedicle screw placement, TLIFs and instrumental fusions; ACDF; craniotomies/craniectomies; brain tumor resections; acute/chronic SDH evacuations; burr holes and plate placements; VP shunt and EVD insertions; thoracic/lumbar kyphoplasty.

Provide neurosurgical general consultations and diagnoses (clinic and hospital) for acute/chronic back pain, neck pain, radiculopathies, disc disease, degenerative spine disease, lumbar scoliosis, discitis/osteomyelitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve compression, normal pressure hydrocephalus, and brain/spine tumors.

Consult on neurotrauma, including C1/2 fractures, burst/compression/chance fractures, SDH, SAH, ICH, head and spine trauma, cauda equina syndrome, and conus medullaris.

Pre‑operative management: obtain imaging, labs, surgical clearance, explain surgical details, and initiate prophylactic medication.

Post‑operative management: remove staples, sutures and drains, monitor labs, obtain follow‑up imaging, correct shunt levels, and refer to PT/OT and pain management.

Interpret head and spine MRIs, CTs, CT myelograms, x‑rays, and EMG/NCV studies; order diagnostic imaging.

Provide evaluation and management in the emergency department, intensive care unit, and hospital setting.

Respond to after‑hours phone calls from patients and physicians.

First assist in the operating room and perform procedures on neurosurgical patients in the ICU and ER.

Educate patients and families.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related professional field.

Doctor of Medicine, Physician Assistant, or qualified Grade 2 Nurse Practitioner with at least 1 year of neurosurgical clinical experience (or less if the applicant is on an accelerated program).

Current BLS certification (or BLS within 30 days of hire).

Credentialed and privileged to practice independently; appropriate state license and DEA/controlled substance registration.

Shift/Schedule 7 on / 7 Off schedule — 7:00 pm to 7:00 am.
