Machine Operator

We are seeking a skilled Machine Operator with excellent coordination, mechanical aptitude, and manual dexterity. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of related mathematics and workplace regulations, and the ability to interpret drawings. You will develop a logical sequence of operations and layout/mark steel for cutting, burning, sawing, shearing, punching, rolling, bending, and straightening. You will also perform related duties as assigned or as dictated by the situation, which may include activities at a customer job site.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and operate machinery with precision and skill.
  • Interpret drawings and develop logical sequences of operations.
  • Layout and mark steel for various processes including cutting, burning, and bending.
  • Perform tasks related to machining and metal fabrication.
  • Operate equipment such as lathes, milling machines, brake presses, shears, and iron workers.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure the safety of fellow employees.

Essential Skills

  • 4-7 years of experience in a machine shop and metal fabrication environment.
  • Proficiency in MIG welding, blueprint reading, and fabrication.
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience with lathes, milling machines, and other metalworking equipment.
  • Ability to understand and work from engineering drawings, sketches, and technical instructions.
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Capability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of computers.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks and stand or sit for extended periods.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with flux core, production, fitting, grinding, and assembly.
  • A special combination of education and experience or demonstrated accomplishments may be considered.

Work Environment

This role is based in a metal fabrication environment where dock equipment is manufactured. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Louisville, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
