Accounting Manager - Publicly‑Traded Manufacturer Downtown Chicago | Hybrid A well‑established, publicly traded manufacturing organization with both U.S. and international operations is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead core accounting functions in a collaborative, hands‑on environment. This role sits at the center of corporate accounting—owning the close, supporting consolidated reporting, strengthening controls, and developing a high‑performing team. What You’ll Be Responsible For Core Accounting & Close Lead monthly close activities across multiple domestic and international entities Review and prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses Oversee key accounting areas including fixed assets, leases, payables, cash, payroll, and accruals Ensure financial statements are accurate, timely, and compliant with U.S. GAAP Reporting & Controls Support external reporting requirements and audit deliverables Maintain and enhance internal controls in a SOX‑compliant environment Own documentation of accounting policies and procedures Identify and implement opportunities to improve close efficiency and data quality Manage and mentor a small team of accountants and AP professionals Review team output for accuracy, timeliness, and consistency Foster a collaborative, accountable, and development‑oriented culture Audit, Tax & Cross‑Functional Support Serve as a primary contact for external auditors during quarterly and annual audits Partner with internal audit and tax teams on compliance, data requests, and filings Support sales/use tax processes and provide information for income tax reporting Collaborate cross‑functionally on system enhancements and special projects What We’re Looking For Bachelor’s degree in Accounting CPA required 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and industry Prior people management experience strongly preferred Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, consolidated reporting, and internal controls Experience working with ERP systems and financial close tools Detail‑oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities Clear communicator with a practical, solutions‑focused mindset Why This Role Is Compelling Visible leadership role within corporate accounting Mix of hands‑on work and team leadership Exposure to both U.S. and international operations Opportunity to influence processes and strengthen controls Stable, values‑driven organization with a strong presence in Chicago Hybrid work environment in the Loop Base Pay Range $120,000.00 / yr – $150,000.00 / yr Additional Compensation Types Annual Bonus Direct message the job poster from Buckingham Search Seniority level Director Employment type Full‑time Job function Accounting/Auditing Industries Manufacturing Referrals increase your chances of interviewing at Buckingham Search by 2x Get notified about new Accounting Manager jobs in Chicago, IL . #J-18808-Ljbffr
