Overview Our MSP client is seeking a

Linux Systems Engineer

to serve as the primary Linux expert supporting a key healthcare client. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys owning systems end-to-end, working closely with stakeholders, and solving complex infrastructure and application challenges.

You will be the

sole Linux Engineer , responsible for maintaining and improving a production environment built primarily on Ubuntu, virtualization (KVM/QEMU), MySQL, and custom automation written in PHP and Python. Key Responsibilities:

Support, maintain, and optimize

Ubuntu-based Linux systems

in a production healthcare environment Manage and administer

virtualized infrastructure using KVM/QEMU Administer, monitor, and tune

MySQL databases

for performance, availability, and reliability Develop and maintain

automation, scripts, and internal tooling

using

PHP and/or Python Troubleshoot system, application, and database issues across the stack Ensure system stability, security, and operational best practices Work directly with internal teams and a healthcare client to support ongoing operational needs

Required Qualifications

Strong hands-on experience administering

Ubuntu/Linux systems Practical experience supporting

KVM/QEMU virtualization Solid

MySQL administration

skills (performance, backups, troubleshooting) Ability to script and automate using

PHP and/or Python Strong troubleshooting skills with a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset Monitoring Tools & backup technologies, security hardening Comfortable working independently and owning Linux infrastructure

Nice to Haves:

Backup and disaster recovery strategies Networking fundamentals (DNS, TCP/IP, firewalls) CI/CD pipelines or DevOps tooling Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
