Job Responsibilities
Armed SPOs shall perform all tasks in accordance with the duties outlined within the Post Orders, prepared by the Office of Safety and Security for all shifts on each post. Some of the duties include but are not limited to:
Access Control Package Screening (X‑Ray Machine)
Personnel screening (Hand Wands / Magnetometers)
Traffic Control Visitor processing
Vehicle inspection
Communications and dispatching
Patrol Operations
Emergency and event response
Correctly attired in uniform, equipment, and grooming
Qualifications
Must be a United States Citizen
Minimum of 1 year of experience in law enforcement, security, or a combination of both
High school diploma or equivalency (collegiate coursework or an AA/AS degree preferred)
Current SPO (Armed) license issued by the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Security Officers Management Branch (SOMB)
Pass suitability determination
Carry a current 9mm calibre semi‑automatic pistol with a “Qualified” card signed and dated by a certified firearms instructor
Certified to carry pepper spray (Oleoresin Capsicum)
Possess a current “CPR/First Aid” card issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
