Staff Job Description
The Executive Director for Housing and Residential Life (H&RL), under limited supervision, provides visionary leadership to enhance the residential experience, develop living-learning communities, manage partnerships, coordinate various managerial functions, facilitate residential life programming, and execute strategic projects for university students to ensure effective student development. The executive director develops and executes University policies, procedures, and practices related to the comprehensive scope of the office, provides oversight of the business activities, strategic planning and development, and supports mission of Student Affairs and the University. Responsibilities
Serves as the point of contact and contract liaison between the university and various housing management and operations vendors, to provide leadership for the residence experience, including planning, directing, supervision and evaluating operations and programming; supervises a team of direct reports and other housing professionals that supports the various operations within Housing & Residential Life including on and off-campus living, commuter student services, residential programming, student leadership and governance, facility operations, and admirative functions for the office.; advances the development of a PVAMU-driven plan to establish Living-Learning Communities within the residential experience that implements high-impact practices to support student success; manages and provides oversight of all housing operations to ensure a standard of living is maintain across all residences and that residential processes align with other major university functions to include, but are not limited to, enrollment timeline, first year onboarding, billing and payments, major campus events, holiday closures, etc. Collaborates with various campus departments including, but not limited to, Dining services, University Police Department, Student Conduct, Student Success, Enrollments Services, Compliance and Treasury Services to streamline to residential experience for all students; facilitates strategic communications for major projects and emerging matters concerning or related to the residential experience. Drives the messaging for public relations, promotions, and inter-departmental communication; works to ensure the general safety of the housing properties by conducting regular inspections of inside space, outside space, lighting, security, and other areas; oversees the coordination of assessment activities related to the housing operations areas; provides effective budget management and oversees fiscal operations for Housing & Residential Life by establishing cost controls, developing revenue strategies, and reconciliations. Recommends new departmental and University-wide policies or revisions to existing policies; supports mission-critical recruitment efforts, divisional initiatives, and student success by serving on designated committees and task-forces as needed; engages in on-call responsibilities related to this position and departmental needs; participates in training and professional development activity to stay abreast of developments in the field. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field. Ten years of related experience in management. Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications
