Description
We are seeking experienced
Small Claims Local Counsel
to represent the company in small claims courts within designated jurisdictions. Local Counsel will handle routine court appearances, case preparation, and resolution of small claims matters in alignment with company policies and legal strategies. This role requires strong courtroom presence, efficiency, and the ability to work collaboratively with a centralized legal or claims team.
Requirements Responsibilities
Review case files, evidence, and legal positions provided by the company
Advise on
local court rules, procedures, and judicial preferences
Represent the company in
small claims court proceedings , including hearings, trials, and mediations
Prepare and file court documents such as appearances, affidavits, motions, and stipulated judgments
Negotiate resolutions, settlements, or payment arrangements when appropriate
Communicate case outcomes, risks, and recommendations promptly to corporate counsel or claims teams
Ensure compliance with all applicable state and local laws, ethical rules, and court deadlines
Maintain accurate records and documentation of all appearances and case activity
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Active,
good-standing license
to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction
Prior experience handling
small claims, collections, civil litigation, or consumer matters
Familiarity with local court procedures and filing systems
Strong courtroom advocacy and negotiation skills
Ability to manage cases efficiently and meet short deadlines
Professional demeanor and strong written/verbal communication skills
Reporting Local Counsel will coordinate directly with a specific Small Claims Attorney assigned to them.
Employment Type: 1099
Pay: flat rate per court date
