Responsibilities

The Milieu Counselor functions under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor/Manager and facilitates communication with patients, assisting in maximizing program participants.

Assists the multidisciplinary staff in maintaining a therapeutic environment in the inpatient treatment programs by encouraging patients to join group activities and sessions.

Establishes and maintains relationships with patients and hospital personnel and is responsible for assuring confidentiality of patient information.

Observes patient behavior and records observations in patient charts during case conferences, following direction of the Clinical Manager/Supervisor.

Participates in crisis situations including Condition 10 or as patient related situations occur, and communicates during shift change meetings.

Conducts room checks in all patient rooms as required throughout shift and documents appropriately.

Assists in coordinating the unit admission process for patients, including physical searches, orientation to unit, and related duties.

Ensures patients attend group and recreational activities, and remains with the patients during assigned meal periods.

Attends in‑service education programs to learn new treatments and procedures for skill development.

Provides support services for the multidisciplinary team, including phone calls and escort duties.

Participates in performance improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent (some college preferred).

Six months of related experience and/or training; CASAC‑T preferred.

Ability to multi‑task, work in a fast‑paced environment and manage time to meet deadlines.

Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
