Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Program Management and Administration

is looking for a Microcomputer/Network Specialist 2 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

Pay is based on the location of the selected applicant; salaries will be discussed at the time of the interview.

Anchorage: $3,028.50 - semi-monthly Juneau: $3,180.00 - semi-monthly

What you will be doing DOT&PF is recruiting for a full-time, long-term, nonpermanent position. This position will accrue personal leave, enjoy 11 paid holidays a year, as well as have the option of health insurance and other benefits.

Incumbent will provide technology support services primarily for the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS). The incumbent will work with other IT professionals to provide customer service and technical support for a broad range of technology services across the AMHS vessel fleet and terminals.

This position is responsible for troubleshooting, analyzing, tracking and resolving hardware and software problems in a ticketing system to ensure service delivery fulfillment. This includes Windows Desktop Platforms, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Office 365, Endpoint Management Software & Solutions, Microsoft Teams, VoIP Phones, Network & Server Equipment, Microcomputer PC Laptop & Tablets, Printers/MFPs, Cabling, Imaging, Configuring & Deploying Workstations, Mobile Devices and other technologies.

In addition, this position will manage user and computer objects in Active Directory, Group Policy, and may assist in maintaining, installing & monitoring servers, routers, switches and other server room equipment. The position collaborates with other IT positions to assist with intrusion remediation, following security best practices.

The working environment you can expect The position may be filled in Juneau, or Anchorage. Once hired and trained, and with supervisor approval, this position is appropriate for in‑state teleworking. Work may occur in various locations, including remote locations and urban centers, requiring adaptability and resourcefulness.

Who we are looking for

Configuration Management:

Knowledge of the principles and methods for planning or managing the implementation, update, or integration of information systems components.

Systems Integration:

Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures for installing, integrating, and optimizing information systems components.

Technical Documentation:

Knowledge of procedures for developing technical and operational support documentation.

Special Note

Valid Driver's License is required.

The incumbent will need a Transportation Worker's Identification Card (TWIC), which requires a background check in order to work in restricted areas on the ferries. After conditional job offer, the background check will be performed and will be paid for by the department.

Requirements for Interview

Three (3) professional references, one of which should be from a former or current supervisor, including name, job title, and current phone numbers.
