Senior Transportation Consultant –Virginia Beach, VA | Richmond, VA Join VHB as a

Senior Transportation Consultant

to help grow their expanding and innovative Transportation team in Virginia. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse markets, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope. Our clients include state and local agencies. This position can be based in Virginia Beach, Richmond or Williamsbirg, VA.

Responsibilities

Develops engineering drawings, conceptual plans, and exhibits for a variety of projects ranging in size and complexity with limited supervision

Plans, researches, and produces contract drawings based on constraints defined by the Project Manager, review agencies, and client needs

Designs roadway based on information, schematics, and calculations developed by Designer

Determines CAD usage and application on projects

Recognizes and resolves potential construction conflicts and difficulties identified during design

Aids in preparation of technical specifications

Ensures overall consistency, quality, technical accuracy, and design on projects

Provides CAD mentoring for other designers and engineers

Skills and Attributes

Effective written, communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills to produce high-quality deliverables in an efficient manner

Team oriented with strong capability to work independently

Motivated to lead and mentor others on CAD and drawing production procedures

Has a persistent initiative to continually learn new technical practices and to earn the confidence of client, company management/colleagues and regulators

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering preferred

15+ years of experience working on complex transportation projects that involved roadway design, maintenance of traffic, grading, utility design and stormwater management

Experience in developing and compiling/producing roadway plans, construction documents, specification, and engineering reports

Experience with GIS Systems is a plus – GIS is one of the tools we use to create better projects

Proficient in the some or all of the following: AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Geopak, Open Roads, Microsoft Project, MS Office Suite

Experience in plan set production for Virginia locality or VDOT transportation projects preferred
