Recruitment No. 25-0481 – Planner I This is a permanent, full‑time position with the Department of Health.

Salary:

$4,726 per month (SR-16, Step D) – includes Shortage Category Differential.

Position Overview Planners provide legislative and top‑level administrative policymakers with information and plans for the orderly and coordinated physical, environmental, social and/or economic development of Hawaii and the services of the State government. The Planner I serves in a trainee capacity, participating in formal training coursework and on‑the‑job assignments to develop an understanding of principles, concepts, techniques, procedures, work processes and use of reference materials fundamental to public planning.

Responsibilities

Develop information and rationale for decisions that affect the direction, rate and character of growth of the State and/or services to the people of the State over a significant period of time.

Perform specific and limited reference and research assignments under immediate supervision.

Prepare clear and comprehensive reports and documents, read and interpret complex written material, and solve complex problems logically and systematically.

Assume other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Legal Authorization to Work:

Citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Basic Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university.

Experience:

Excess professional work experience in public planning or any other progressively responsible administrative, professional, or analytical work can substitute for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.

Demonstrated ability to write clear reports, read complex material, and solve problems systematically.

Driver’s License:

Some positions require a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
