Summary The Washington Nationals are seeking a junior web developer to join our Baseball Research & Development team. We are looking for candidates who are both passionate about building web applications and enthusiastic about the opportunity to work on software that has a significant impact within a baseball organization.
The junior web developer will contribute to our internal web application used by the entire baseball organization. Some key features of the site include player pages, video, data visualizations, custom reports, and other tools. Our web application helps inform player acquisition decisions and player development processes by surfacing information to front office decision makers, coaches, acquisition specialists, and players.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborate with senior developers to design, develop, and deploy new features for our internal web application
Develop responsive frontend interfaces using a combination of Vue + Tailwind, or standard HTML + CSS + JavaScript
Translate mockups and requirements provided by stakeholders into functional user interfaces
Participate in the code review process to ensure code quality and share knowledge
Troubleshoot and resolve bugs or performance issues
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information science, or related experiences
1+ year of full-time web development experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Necessary To Perform Essential Functions
Experience with modern programming languages (e.g. Ruby, Python, JavaScript) and backend frameworks (e.g. Rails, Django, Flask, FastAPI, Node/Express)
Experience with frontend JavaScript frameworks, such as Vue or React, HTML, and CSS
Some experience with relational database systems and SQL
Some experience with JavaScript data visualization libraries (D3, Plotly, Chart.js) is a plus
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Ability to write clean, concise, and maintainable code
Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
Authorized to work in the United States
Physical/Environmental Requirements
Office: Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
Compensation The projected annual salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000 per year. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
