Your Opportunity Reporting to the Managing Counsel for Infrastructure/Buildings, you will play a key role within Stantec’s Risk Management group, contributing to a wide variety of legal and business matters. The role requires strong leadership in ethics and integrity, and a commitment to transparent and honest communication.
Your Key Responsibilities
Manage complex litigation matters, including professional liability claims, general civil litigation, and professional disciplinary proceedings.
Take primary responsibility for the review, negotiation, internal coordination, and closeout of various professional service and construction agreements.
Provide general legal advice, support, and training to business units on operational and ethics‑related matters.
Handle routine legal matters such as responding to subpoenas, public records requests, potential claims, and emerging issues.
Support commercial collections and matters related to mergers and acquisitions.
Consult and provide support to other Stantec lawyers and internal support teams when necessary.
Proactively manage and supervise external counsel and associated budgets.
Serve as the main point of contact and advisor for a broad range of internal constituents across multiple jurisdictions.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with a strong ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Experience supporting Design Professionals is considered an asset.
Substantial experience in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry, including complex commercial litigation and sophisticated contract work.
Strong triage and prioritization skills, successfully managing multiple competing demands simultaneously.
Capacity to balance legal and business needs, providing timely and value‑added advice.
Maintain a high standard of respect and integrity while working alongside peers and colleagues.
Education and Experience
Possession of a Juris Doctorate or equivalent degree, with admission to the bar in the United States.
A minimum of 7–10 years of relevant experience gained either at a law firm or in‑house.
Occasional travel within the United States and Canada is required; a valid passport is necessary.
A valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
Typical Office Environment Work with computers and remain sedentary for long periods of time.
