Position Summary The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and takes the initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating leadership, evidence‑based practice, and relationship‑based care into clinical practice. The role involves collaborating with the multidisciplinary team, advocating for patients, and supporting department and unit goals.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and update patient care plans based on ongoing assessment and input from patients and families.
Share information and collaborate with the healthcare team to promote effective patient care.
Verify and implement orders from physicians, physician assistants, and advanced practice nurses, documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
Engage patients and families to develop appropriate educational plans.
Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to changing patient needs.
Delegate tasks to support personnel per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provide feedback.
Advocate for patients, families, and the community.
Integrate theoretical knowledge, evidence‑based research, and current standards of practice to provide quality patient care.
Assume the role of charge nurse when assigned.
Collocate with other nurses to foster positive learning experiences.
Serve as preceptor or resource to nursing and support staff.
Identify learning needs and pursue professional growth.
Perform other duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
Current BLS/CPR and/or unit‑specific certifications.
Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) or within 6 months of hire for the main hospital.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Intermediate computer skills with proficiency in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.
