Amazon Prime is looking for an ambitious Economist to help create econometric insights for world‑wide Prime. Prime is Amazon’s premiere membership program, with over 200 M members worldwide. This role sits at the center of many major company decisions that impact Amazon’s customers across a variety of industries, from fast‑free e‑commerce shipping and digital content to grocery offerings. Prime Science creates insights that power these decisions. Responsibilities
As an economist in this role, you will create statistical tools that embed causal interpretations. You will utilize massive data, state‑of‑the‑art scientific computing, and econometrics—including causal, counterfactual, structural, time‑series forecasting, experimentation—and machine‑learning to deliver publishable science to internal or external conferences. You will work closely with a team of economists, applied scientists, data professionals (business analysts, business intelligence engineers), product managers, and software engineers to transform descriptive statistics into novel statistical and econometric models. You will build automated scientific data products that power company decisions and write strategic documents explaining how senior leaders should use these insights to create sustainable value for customers. The team operates at the research frontier of data, econometrics, AI, and machine‑learning to shape business strategies. Qualifications
PhD in economics or equivalent Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of data analysis languages (e.g., R, Stata, Python, etc.) or other statistical software Experience in a postdoctoral position, consulting position, government position, or academic research Compensation
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $116,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign‑on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
