Trillium Staffing
Trillium Professional is now seeking a UX/UI Designer in Boston for a hybrid position! This is a 6‑month contract, 35 hours per week. We’re looking for a short‑term research‑focused UX/UI designer. You’ll be embedded within a small in‑house design team to execute on defined projects. You’ll report to the Director of User Experience and Service Design within the Boston Digital Service, and collaborate with product, engineering, data science, and subject matter experts across the City of Boston ecosystem. We are looking for someone strong in Figma and facilitation and comfortable conducting usability testing without heavy oversight.
Schedule is up to 35 hours per week. The contract is from January 2026 – June 2026 (no extensions). Pay rate is $62/hour.
Core Responsibilities
Plan and run usability tests for web apps and Boston.gov pages (e.g. AI Search, Boston.gov/Permitting) and synthesize findings into recommendations and design updates.
Translate requirements into high‑fidelity, accessible prototypes in Figma and produce rapid wireframes or production‑ready UI for apps like registry.boston.gov and Properties.Boston.gov.
Document components and contribute new patterns to the Boston Design System.
Synthesize data, research, and design insights to guide decisions and translate findings into accessible, intuitive UI; use risks, opportunities, and constraints in technology, systems and policy to shape design; run design sessions that include senior leaders and stakeholders.
Ideal Background / Experience
3‑4 years of experience in digital product and service design.
Experience in government or similar organizational environments.
Expert proficiency in Figma, agile workflows, WCAG accessibility standards, Miro and other digital collaboration tools.
Strong facilitator, systems thinker, and advocate for user‑centered design in complex organizations.
