About Our Client: Addison Group is partnering with one of our association-based clients to identify a State Government Affairs Manager to support advocacy and policy initiatives within the payments and financial technology space. Our client represents organizations operating across electronic payments, financial services, and related technologies and plays an active role in shaping public policy at the state level.
Job Description: The State Government Affairs Manager will support state-level legislative and regulatory efforts impacting the payments industry. This role focuses on policy analysis, legislative tracking, advocacy coordination, and strategic communications. The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable working independently, and experienced in fast-paced, policy-driven environments.
This position manages a function rather than people and works closely with senior leadership to provide insights, materials, and recommendations related to government affairs activity.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor, analyze, and track state legislation and regulatory developments affecting the industry
Prepare summaries, reports, and briefings for senior leadership and stakeholders
Draft policy-related materials such as issue briefs, comment letters, testimony support, and advocacy content
Assist in the development and execution of state-level advocacy strategies
Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to align messaging and policy positions
Maintain legislative tracking tools and documentation on emerging trends
Support grassroots initiatives, meetings, fly-ins, and educational events (virtual and in-person)
Provide legislative and regulatory updates to internal audiences as a subject matter resource
Adapt quickly to shifting priorities and time-sensitive policy needs
Contribute to special projects and initiatives aligned with organizational goals
Qualifications:
3–4+ years of relevant experience in government affairs, policy analysis, advocacy, communications, or regulatory work
Prior experience within an association, trade group, or policy-focused organization strongly preferred
Strong understanding of state legislative processes and government operations
Proven ability to research, analyze, and explain complex policy issues clearly
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting tools
Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Communications, English, Public Policy, or a related field preferred
Familiarity with payments or financial services is a plus, but not required
Additional Details:
Indefinite temporary role with the possibility of conversion for the right candidate
Start date targeted for early January
Overtime eligible, as needed
Team size: small, collaborative government affairs group
Works closely with a remote VP and an on-site executive leader
