VEG ER for Pets
as a per diem Emergency Veterinarian. VEG was founded in 2014 with a mission to help people and pets when they need it most, redefining the emergency experience with open‑concept hospitals open 24/7, 365 days a year. VEG is a 2025 and 2026 certified Great Place to Work®.
THE JOB
As an Emergency Veterinarian you will handle any emergency that comes through the door, from routine cases to complex surgeries, and treat every kind of pet, including exotics. You will lead the hospital floor, providing high‑quality care, mentoring colleagues, and continuously learning through on‑floor guidance and VEG Education programs.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Answer medical questions over the phone
See patients immediately as part of VEG Triage and VEG Spikes, our customer‑centered approach that allows families to stay with their pets
Gather signalment, presenting complaint, vitals, and perform a comprehensive physical exam
Conduct physical examinations and required investigations such as ultrasounds, X‑rays, bloodwork, and biopsies
Diagnose each pet’s condition and create diagnostic and therapeutic plans
Communicate diagnosis and treatment options directly with customers
Prepare and present estimates to customers
Create and review medical records for accuracy
Explain the value of tests and treatments to customers, addressing concerns
Perform minor and major emergency surgeries
Perform endoscopic procedures
Educate customers on after‑care and preventative measures
WHAT YOU NEED
A DVM or equivalent degree
Proficiency in emergency medicine, including soft‑tissue emergency surgery and endoscopy
Ability to work in a team‑oriented environment
Physical stamina to stand, kneel, lift up to 25 kg alone, and support up to 40 kg with assistance
Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors
Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as‑needed basis
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with diverse people
