About the Team The Developer Infrastructure organization supports thousands of engineers across the development lifecycle in Ruby, Java, Go, Python, and TypeScript. We maintain observability systems, ensure a high uptime, and foster productive engineering practices while complying with regulatory requirements.

What You’ll Do As a Senior Staff Engineer you will define and drive the evolution of Stripe’s Developer Infrastructure, making critical decisions that influence engineer practices across the organization. You will collaborate with product, infrastructure, and cross‑functional partners to identify pain points, propose creative solutions, and increase developer satisfaction and productivity.

Responsibilities

Define and design architectural strategies, policies, and abstractions that create a sustainable solution for internal Stripe users.

Collaborate with cross‑functional partners and stakeholders to support key initiatives and navigate organizational complexity.

Lead and manage a team of talented engineers, providing mentorship, guidance, and support.

Create and execute strategies to measure engineering productivity and sentiment, prioritizing impactful projects.

Implement strategies for AI‑enabled development tools (coding assistants, agentic development) across the organization.

Minimum Requirements

BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field.

13+ years of professional experience in software development or DevOps automation.

Experience building systems focused on developer productivity and toolinge.g., code review, CI/CD, build systems, version control, IDE).

Experience leading cross‑team, company‑wide projects.

Experience optimizing reliability and security of distributed systems.

Experience mentoring engineers at various career stages.

Experience developing, maintaining, and debugging distributed systems.

Experience driving operational excellence with metrics, alerts, and dashboards.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with build systems (Bazel, Gradle, Buck, CMake).

Experience with AI development strategies (coding assistants, agentic development).

Experience in a team using AWS, Azure, OCI, or Google Cloud.

Experience with Kubernetes.

Experience with Terraform.

In‑Office Expectations Office‑assigned engineers are expected to spend at least 50% of their time in their local office, with higher percentages for certain locations (e.g., 80% in Bucharest, 100% in Mexico City and Bengaluru). These expectations may vary by role, team, and location.

Pay and Benefits The annual US base salary range for this role is $267,000–$400,400. Additional benefits include equity, bonus or sales commissions, a 401(k) plan, medical, dental, vision coverage, and wellness stipends.
