About The Position The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) is committed to educating students to be culturally, globally, socially, historically, and environmentally astute, civically responsible alumni able to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the College Advisor (Student Services Professional II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive, relational, and holistic academic advising to undergraduate students.
Support all students from matriculation through graduation.
Create and promote a positive university experience for each student and assist them in achieving Cal State Fullerton’s commitment to student success.
Advocate for advising needs that contribute to successful enrollment, engagement, and completion of educational goals.
Collaborate with faculty, chairpersons, and other advising teams in inclusive and equitable practices for student success.
Engage in professional development and lifelong learning of knowledge and skills in academic advising, tools, technologies, and best practices.
Translate and apply student success strategies by establishing working relationships with academic departments, colleges, university services, and all advising teams to create a seamless advising environment.
Identify core challenges, propose solutions, and effectively communicate with staff, students, and academic leaders.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a related field and two years of professional experience in a student services program area. A master’s degree may substitute one year of experience. Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
General knowledge of organizational management, research and interview techniques. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews, and advise students individually and in groups on complex student‑related matters. Strong reasoning, initiative, planning, coordination and supervision skills. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and familiarity with campus procedures.
A satisfactory background check is required and is a condition for employment. Conditional offers may be rescinded if disqualifying information is revealed.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience working with a diverse student population (race/ethnicity, gender, first‑generation status, economic, sexual orientation, religions, age, etc.).
Knowledge of accredited 4‑year higher education general education requirements and policies.
Competence in following all university policies, procedures, and guidelines, including safety, civility, information security, and non‑discrimination policies.
Proficiency in Office 365 and student engagement platforms (Navigate, video production tools, EAB Navigate, Ellucian Degree Audit, etc.).
License / Certifications Valid California driver’s license.
