Summary Cares for well newborns and establishes a primary care provider prior to discharge from the hospital. The hospitalist is responsible for managing the care of well newborns and works collaboratively with nurse case and care managers, care coordinators, unit based nursing and nursing leadership, obstetric providers, neonatologists, and other facility-based healthcare professionals who comprise the patients care team. The well baby hospitalist leads the care team in providing efficient but compassionate care. The newborn hospitalist is also responsible for the resuscitation and stabilization of newborns in distress until neonatal transport can be arranged to transfer the newborn to a higher level of care.

Job Description

Oversees and is accountable for the overall quality of care and clinical outcomes within the assigned facilities.

Oversees and is accountable for all resource utilization within the assigned facilities.

Ensure both patient and provider satisfaction and develop plans for improvement.

Provides input into the well baby hospitalist teams financial, clinical, and service quality performance; budget; capital plan; and personnel issues.

Attend and participate in all regularly scheduled well baby hospitalist meetings.

Attend and participate in requested QI, Peer Review and Care Management meetings.

Attend Pediatric Executive Committee, OB Executive Committee, Childrens Clinical Advisory Workgroup and Womens Clinical Advisory Workgroup.

Provide real time feedback to PCPs regarding clinical and operational guidelines to optimize patient care and clinical efficiency.

Maintain coding and encounter data standards for completeness, accuracy, timeliness and reimbursement level., including legible documentation.

Meet and maintain all provider credentialling and QI standards.

Participate in the development, adoption, and implementation process for clinical standards for well baby care.

Knowledgeable of the contents of "Guidelines for Perinatal Care".

Work with the Medical Director to assure proper provider staffing, including vacation coverage.

Mentor and educate all new Pediatric Well Baby Hospitalists and Advanced Practice Clinicians on PMGs service standards.

Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, literature review, in-services, and workshops.

Credentialed to perform circumcision and frenectomy.

Credentialing to perform neonatal intubation.

Maintains Neonatal Resuscitation Credentialing.

Performs other functions as required.
