Job Description Job Description A Sheet Metal Duct Apprentice learns to fabricate, and assemble HVAC ductwork by assisting fabricators and shop foreman, reading blueprints, using tools (shears, welders, hammers) to cut, shape, and join metal, and performing tasks like loading materials, smoothing joints, and ensuring safety, under supervision, with a focus on learning skills to move up the trade ladder. Key Responsibilities Fabrication: Measure, cut, bend, and shape sheet metal for ducts, plenums, and fittings using hand and power tools. Assembly: Join metal pieces by soldering, welding, riveting, or using fasteners, and smooth seams. Blueprint Reading: Learn to interpret technical drawings to understand project specifications. Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport materials to job sites. Safety & Maintenance: Adhere to safety protocols, clean work areas, and maintain tools and equipment. Essential Skills & Qualifications Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to learn to operate fabricating machines and use hand/power tools. Physical Ability: Capable of lifting heavy materials and working in various conditions (e.g., heights, confined spaces). Attention to Detail: For accurate measurements and quality workmanship. Teamwork: Work effectively with experienced tradespeople. Learning & Growth Apprentices gain hands-on experience while completing classroom instruction on safety, math, and emerging technologies. The goal is to develop into a skilled Sheet Metal Worker, progressing from basic tasks to independent work on complex HVAC systems.
