Save Job

We’re building the AI-powered operating system for building materials—an industry measured in

trillions

that still runs on phone calls, PDFs, and tribal knowledge. Arbor is a B2B marketplace for contractor-grade supplies, discontinued products, and hard-to-find SKUs. We sell real inventory to contractors, developers, and government buyers who are done wasting hours sourcing materials and getting punished on price. Now we’re turning Arbor into something rarer:

a marketplace where AI actually moves the needle —pricing, procurement, and customer experience—inside a physical supply chain. This role is our

first dedicated AI hire . You won’t be “supporting an AI initiative.” You’ll own the core intelligence layer that becomes ArborOS. The mission Build production AI systems that make the building materials supply chain radically more intelligent— faster decisions, better pricing, higher win rates, fewer mistakes , and a buying experience contractors actually trust. What you’ll build (real systems, shipped to customers) You’ll own the end-to-end design, deployment, and iteration of AI products that directly impact revenue and margins: 1) Pricing Intelligence Engine (marketplace-grade, not academic) Identify arbitrage opportunities across thousands of SKUs React to changing supply, lead times, and competitor dynamics Surface the “why” behind pricing so humans can trust it Optimize for margin

and

conversion—not vanity accuracy 2) Sales + Support Agents that contractors don’t hate

(voice + text) Quote jobs, answer spec questions, find substitutes, and know when to escape Grounded responses with traceable sources (no hallucinated specs) Low latency, high reliability, measurable deflection + win-rate lift 3) Demand forecasting for “weird inventory” We specialize in discontinued/hard-to-find products where classic forecasting breaks. Predict demand signals earlier than the market Model substitutions and cross-SKU relationships Use messy, real-world signals (not clean textbook datasets) 4) Procurement Copilot for full-project sourcing Help buyers spec an entire job Recommend substitutes when items are unavailable Optimize for cost + availability + lead time + constraints 5) The unglamorous but critical parts Evals, monitoring, regression testing, and guardrails Latency + cost optimization (LLMs aren’t free) Data pipelines and feedback loops that compound advantage This is not research. These systems will be in production and used by real customers—fast. What “great” looks like in this role Within months, your work should visibly change the business. Examples: Pricing suggestions that reliably improve margin and/or conversion Support response times dropping from minutes to seconds without sacrificing trust A procurement copilot that turns multi-hour sourcing into a workflow measured in minutes A measurement and evaluation stack that keeps quality stable as product changes weekly Who this is for This role fits you if you: Have shipped

LLM-based products

to production (not “a demo,” not “a notebook”) Can handle being the only AI specialist in the room—while partnering tightly with product/engineering/operators Like ambiguity because you’re good at turning ambiguity into shipped software Care about outcomes: margin, conversion, speed, trust, retention Have strong product taste

and

strong engineering execution What we’re looking for (technical) Strong Python + ability to build production services (APIs, data flows, observability) Comfort with the hard tradeoffs: latency, reliability, unit economics, security, monitoring Experience with modern ML frameworks (PyTorch/TensorFlow) is useful—pragmatism matters more than brand names Bonus points

if you’ve worked on: Voice AI / real-time agents Multi-modal workflows (images/spec sheets/PDFs) Marketplace pricing systems, supply chain, procurement, or ML Ops at scale What we don’t care about Whether you’ve worked at a “name brand” company Years of experience as a proxy for ability We care about what you’ve built, how you think, and whether you can ship. Why Arbor A real wedge:

We’re not “a construction app.” We move physical inventory and sit directly in the decision path: what to buy, when, from whom, and at what price. A compounding data advantage:

Every quote, substitution, purchase order, lead time, and customer question becomes signal—if you build the system correctly. Founding-level ownership:

You’ll define the AI roadmap, architecture, and quality bar. If we’re right, you’ll also help build the team. No cosplay:

No committees, no AI theater, no slide decks pretending to be progress. We ship. Compensation Competitive salary + meaningful equity. If you want the highest upside of your career, you want ownership this early. If you’re considering applying If you want a role where you can point to a living system and say “I built the intelligence that runs this marketplace,” you’ll like it here. Send: A short note on what you’ve shipped in production (links if possible) One project you’re proud of and why it mattered Anything that demonstrates taste: a post, repo, talk, or write-up Seniority level
