Overview
Eastern State Hospital, founded in 1773, serves a community-focused mental health population from a 500-acre campus with two patient care buildings and a skilled staff of over 900. The hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and is accredited by the Joint Commission. The MOONLIGHTING psychiatrist will serve as Medical Officer on Duty (MOD) to provide onsite psychiatric and medical coverage on weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
Job Duties Serve as Medical Officer on Duty (MOD) during scheduled shifts.
Provide onsite psychiatric and medical coverage for an acute adult inpatient population.
Assess and triage psychiatric and general medical conditions.
Remain onsite for the entire shift, including access to a furnished bedroom in the MOD lounge.
Work 12‑hour shifts on weeknights and holidays, 15‑hour shifts on weekends; shifts may be consecutive but not exceed 48 consecutive hours or 1,560 hours per calendar year.
Schedule
Monday–Friday: 5:00 PM–8:00 AM (12‑hour shift) Weekends: 8:00 AM–8:00 PM and 8:00 PM–8:00 AM (15‑hour shifts) Holidays: 8:00 AM–5:00 PM and 5:00 PM–8:00 AM (12‑hour shifts)
Minimum Qualifications Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree.
Completion or enrollment in an accredited/approved psychiatry residency training program.
Licensed to practice Medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Valid DEA registration.
Must live within driving distance to campus.
