Hospital Billing (HB) Senior Director
Location: Whittier, California

The Senior Director of Facility Revenue Cycle oversees all aspects of hospital-based billing (HB) and collections operations including:
Hospital (HB) billing and home health claim processing, insurance follow-up, denials management, and underpayment variances
Self-pay, customer service, financial counseling, cash posting, contract management with vendors utilized in Business Office (e.g. outsourcing), refunds, and credit balances
This opportunity is an internal role for an Impact Advisor’s client. This position is accountable for optimizing the end-to-end revenue cycle for facility services, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across all functions that impact HB billing and reimbursement. The Director leads performance improvement initiatives focused on streamlining workflows, enhancing system integration, and strengthening collaboration between departments such as Patient Registration, Scheduling, Insurance Verification, Billing, Collections, and Denials Management. This position plays a key role in driving operational excellence, improving cash performance, and maintaining the integrity of the hospital’s financial operations.
Required Skills
Extensive knowledge of hospital revenue cycle operations, including Patient Financial Services (PFS), Patient Access, billing, follow-up, collections, and cash posting.
Deep understanding of hospital reimbursement methodologies, including Medicare and Medi-Cal cost-based reimbursement, DRG/APC payment structures, and managed care contract terms.
Proven leadership and people management skills, with experience supervising multi-level teams, fostering staff development, and driving accountability and engagement.
Strong analytical and financial acumen, with the ability to interpret complex revenue data, identify trends, and develop actionable performance improvement strategies.
Proficiency in revenue cycle KPIs and benchmarking, including AR days, denial rates, collection rates, and cash performance metrics.
Hands-on experience with hospital EHRs (Epic, MEDITECH, Cerner, or similar) with strong proficiency in Excel and other tools utilized for data analysis and financial reporting
Comprehensive knowledge of payer requirements and regulatory guidelines, including CMS, HIPAA, EMTALA, and state-specific billing regulations.
Demonstrated success leading process improvement initiatives, leveraging technology and collaboration to streamline workflows and improve accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments (HIM, Case Management, Finance, IT, and Clinical teams) and influence at all organizational levels.
Strategic problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate challenges, evaluate options, and implement sustainable solutions that support organizational goals.
Strong customer service orientation, ensuring patient and provider concerns are addressed promptly and professionally.
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred (Business, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or related field).
Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in hospital revenue cycle management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role overseeing facility billing and collections.
