Dentist – PRN – Part Time 8 hours a week
Location:
Polk County Jail, Des Moines, IA About the role A correctional dentist will provide dental care to incarcerated individuals, working with correctional officers and medical staff to deliver high‑quality care within a secure environment. Responsibilities
Diagnosing, treating, and providing preventive care to patients. Creating and executing treatment plans, including extractions, restorations, and other procedures. Performing radiographic exams, emergency treatment such as oral surgery, restorative dentistry, and periodontal therapy within general dentistry scope. Medical assessments and evaluation of patients returning from offsite visits. Educating patients on oral hygiene and providing discharge instructions. Maintaining accurate dental records. Supervising and coaching dental assistant. Ensuring sterilization, disinfection, and compliance with infection control protocols. Participating in staff training and orientation. Collaborating with other medical professionals to address patient oral health needs. Qualifications
Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD). Valid dental license in Iowa. Active BLS/CPR certification (AHA preferred). Current DEA registration. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Proficiency in general dentistry procedures. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary information. Adherence to facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements. Pass a criminal background check and drug screening. Physical Capabilities
Must be able to stand for long periods, lift/move patients up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform demanding tasks (e.g., CPR) while maintaining balance and endurance throughout a shift. Why Join NaphCare?
