Overview
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an Associate Director for Basic Cancer Research (AD BCR) at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. The AD BCR is a senior faculty member who conducts outstanding basic cancer research, holds an NCI‑funded independent investigator position, and serves on the Lineberger Senior Leadership Team. The role combines research leadership, mentorship, and programmatic collaboration to advance basic science within a NCI‑designated comprehensive cancer center. Responsibilities
Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty members. Serve on the Lineberger Senior Leadership Team and aid in recruitment of junior faculty. Foster close working relationships with Program Leaders and Shared Resource Directors. Participate in team science initiatives. Review grant applications and investigator‑initiated clinical trials to embed basic science opportunities. Attend research program meetings and represent the program during NCI site visits and external advisory board meetings. Co‑create a scientific community at Lineberger reflective of all components of a NCI‑designated comprehensive cancer center. Qualifications
PhD, MD, or MD/PhD with a track record of high‑impact basic cancer research. Established, NCI‑funded independent investigator experience in cancer biology. Strong publication record in high‑impact peer‑reviewed journals. Demonstrated success in securing extramural grant funding. Excellent writing skills for grant applications. Strong collaborative record with basic, clinical, and translational scientists. Leadership experience in cancer research or related programs. Minimum Education & Experience
PhD, MD, or MD/PhD. Relevant leadership experience. High‑impact peer‑reviewed publications. Strong track record of collaborations with basic, clinical and translational scientists. Preferred Qualifications
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Relevant NCI cancer center program leadership experience. Benefits
