At Jacobs, we’re challenging the future by solving the world’s most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission‑critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery, and cutting‑edge manufacturing. Our employees help shape communities by creating world‑class projects that transform future development patterns.
As a Senior Civil Engineer, you’ll work alongside engineers and architects in the Federal & Environmental Solutions (F&ES) business unit and lead the civil engineering component of facility planning and final design projects. Responsibilities include overall project quality of civil engineering work, client service, utilization of assigned staff, and project profitability. Projects include site development for U.S. military and other federal facilities. Travel to project sites, including international locations, is expected.
Key technical duties: assessing site features and creating site layouts, designing utilities systems and pavements, grading and drainage, stormwater management, erosion & sediment control; writing project specifications and developing integrated facility site plans with other design disciplines. Services during construction include review and approval of contractor submittal documents and addressing contractor RFIs. Additional duties may involve developing labor budgets for civil engineering design effort and creating cost‑effective phased plans for infrastructure upgrades and replacements. You will attend multi‑discipline design meetings, interact with clients, and lead a team of EITs and civil support staff. Strong communication skills are required to mentor less experienced employees, manage project teams, collaborate with senior engineers of other disciplines and architects, and report design progress to Project Managers and clients.
Other possible assignments include civil works projects with coastal engineers to address floodwalls, stormwater pump stations, and other resiliency measures. On‑site supervision of topographic and utility survey teams may also be required.
