This software engineering position is for a software lead of a team developing embedded software for control systems. The role requires applying innovative approaches to resolve unusual or complex engineering problems, analyzing, investigating, and resolving embedded software and control system issues with limited direction. The software lead is a project leadership role providing direction to experienced staff, investigating issues, documenting findings, communicating status to project management, making technical presentations, and representing the organization as the prime technical contact with customers.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead a software team to ensure timely completion of development activities, supervising support staff and technicians.

Initiate planning of engineering projects and develop innovative designs or modifications to meet project goals.

Independently perform difficult/complex engineering work with general instructions.

Perform functional testing of embedded software and control systems using standard engineering and scientific principles.

Use lab equipment (voltmeters, ammeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network packet sniffers, serial emulators) to obtain test data and perform analysis.

Apply technical knowledge to train others in analyzing, investigating, and resolving engineering problems.

Support operation of engineering systems, develop documentation of findings, implement solutions, and communicate results to leadership, including technical presentations to a wider audience.

Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

Work safely in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Follow a 9x80 schedule with every other Friday off.

Job Qualifications

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or PhD in engineering or a related discipline and progressive experience: 18+ years with a bachelor’s, 16+ years with a master’s, or 13+ years with a PhD.

Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet deadlines as a software lead.

Thorough understanding of software engineering principles, coding languages, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts; general knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering.

Ability to apply engineering knowledge, adapt standard techniques, and use diagnostics, tools, and equipment while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Rapidly grasps new concepts and applies them in an evolving environment.

Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills for interfacing with professionals, producing documentation, and presenting results to a wider audience.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team; provide leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.

Experience with GUI design for tactical users, EO/IR signal processing for ISR, algorithm design for target tracking or motion control, practical application of AI/ML, NIST cybersecurity for software engineering, ISO/IEEE/IEC standards for software and systems engineering, DoD JSSEH for software system safety, DOE NQA‑1 for nuclear safety, and an Electrical & Computer Engineering P.E. license are pluses.

Must obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Willingness to work extended hours to meet deadlines and increase project success probability.

Customer‑focused, able to work independently or in a team, and willing to travel as required.

Job Type and Salary Full‑Time Salary range: 140,940 - 252,293
