Base pay range $118,984.00/yr – $141,839.00/yr
The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Applications Programmer Analyst II in the Information Technology Department. In this role, you will act as a technical liaison between IT and various City departments, translating complex business requirements into effective technological solutions. You will support critical City operations through the design, implementation, and support of enterprise applications, data systems, and spatial technologies that directly impact City staff and the Berkeley community. Projects may include developing reports and data queries, participating in system integrations, and contributing to technology initiatives that improve service delivery, operational efficiency, and transparency.
Current vacant positions include a
generalist role
and a
GIS‑focused role . Both positions are embedded within the City’s Project Management Office (PMO) and function as technical resources on cross‑departmental project teams.
Generalist Responsibilities
Analyzing business processes and translating requirements into technical solutions
Supporting, configuring, and enhancing enterprise and departmental applications
Developing and maintaining reports, dashboards, and data queries
Providing technical documentation, user support, and training
Serving as a technical resource on PMO‑led technology initiatives
GIS‑Focused Responsibilities
Administering, configuring, and supporting GIS platforms such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related ESRI technologies
Creating, maintaining, and publishing spatial data, map services, and web maps
Performing spatial analysis to support City programs, policy decisions, and operational needs
Collaborating with departments to gather GIS requirements and translate them into technical solutions
Developing GIS documentation, standards, and best practices
Providing GIS training and technical support to City staff
Minimum Qualifications Equivalent to graduation from a four‑year college or university with major coursework in computer science, mathematics, business administration, or a closely related field and two (2) years of professional experience in systems design and analysis, systems integration, and/or programming of applications for computer systems. Experience in those areas may be substituted for the education requirement on a year‑for‑year basis.
In addition to the qualifications outlined above, the ideal candidate will have a combination of technical and business acumen to navigate and resolve a wide array of projects and issues.
