Overview Reporting to the Manager of Application Development, the Database Programmer will be responsible for designing databases from tables to stored procedures and views, and the maintenance of these databases (backup and restore, migrations, etc), creating ETL processes for importing and exporting data, and building reports for our users. They will be carrying out these tasks independently or as part of a project team.

Responsibilities

Installation, backup, and maintenance of our Microsoft SQL Server databases and servers.

Implement access controls, encryption, and data-protection measures.

Maintain compliance with the City of Boston and Boston Police Department legal data security standards.

SQL programming to provide data feeds to department personnel.

Stored procedure programming for department personnel and application development efforts.

Creating, modifying, and maintaining reports using SQL Server Reporting Services.

Creating, modifying, and maintaining data feeds using SQL Server Integration Services.

Querying our databases to fulfill custom data requests from the Freedom of Information Act.

Managing data content on the department portal.

Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

Applicants must have at least three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in Microsoft SQL Server programming and/or DBA experience.

Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or a related field is preferred.

Ability to design and create tables, stored procedures, views, and indexes as a back end to applications developed by the Application Development team.

Experience with SQL Server Management Studio and Microsoft Visual Studio.

Experience in creating scripts with languages such as VBScript and C#.

Basic understanding of software development and the ability to work in a team setting.

Self-motivated & self-sufficient.

Works well in a team environment.

Flexible and can adapt to changing role requirements.

Strong communication skills to translate business needs into appropriate data queries.

Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

Ability to create SSRS reports and SSIS packages, and the ability to deploy and maintain them.

Ability to independently learn new technologies and concepts.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Terms Union/Salary Plan/Grade: SENA/MM1-6 Hours per week: 35
