The expected compensation range for this position is $95,000 – $115,000 annually.
Key Responsibilities
Concept Development & Design: Develop product design concepts, sketches, models, and prototypes to support new product development. Create user‑centered designs that support intuitive use by students and educators in classroom environments. Design product forms, interfaces, and touchpoints that balance appearance, durability, and manufacturability. Translate educational and learning objectives into usable product designs. Translate user research and stakeholder input into clear design requirements and experience principles.
Prototyping & Iteration: Build and refine physical prototypes using a variety of tools and materials. Iterate designs based on feedback, testing results, and manufacturability considerations. Participate in user research activities and incorporate findings into design solutions.
Collaboration & Cross‑Functional Integration: Collaborate with Mechanical and Electrical Engineers to integrate aesthetics with functionality and ensure design intent carries through to final product. Work closely with Product Management, Curriculum, Marketing, and Sourcing/Operations teams. Collaborate with suppliers on CMF, tooling considerations, and production constraints.
Branding & Visual Consistency: Support branding, packaging, and visual consistency across product lines. Provide input on color, material, and finish (CMF), packaging, and product presentation.
Presentation & Documentation: Present design concepts and rationale using sketches, renderings, and prototypes during design reviews and cross‑functional discussions. Participate in design reviews and present design concepts and recommendations. Prepare design documentation and specifications to support manufacturing.
Advocacy & Additional Duties: Advocate for the end user throughout the product development process. Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or related field
3–7 years of product design experience in consumer, educational, or related products
Experience using design tools such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, KeyShot, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar
Portfolio demonstrating user‑centered design, problem solving skills, and production‑ready work
Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered
Desired Qualifications
Experience designing products for children or classroom use
Familiarity with product safety considerations for educational environments
Working knowledge of UX/UI principles for physical–digital ecosystems
Experience with CMF development and documentation
Work Location
Hybrid schedule in Boston, MA – minimum three days in office; remaining days can be worked from a home office.
Travel Requirements
Occasional travel, typically less than 10%, as needed.
