Job Summary Responsible to plan, organize, develop, direct and delegate (as appropriate) the overall operation of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and facility policies. The objective is to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Responsibilities
Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Nursing Department.
Assure all nursing procedures and protocols are followed in accordance with established policies.
Supervise and instruct team members; develop nursing/rehabilitative philosophy.
Ensure adequate staffing on all shifts; participate in planning and scheduling.
Audit charts, EHR, lab and X‑ray reports to ensure accurate documentation.
Participate in resident care plan conferences, family council meetings, and admit review.
Recruit, interview, and select staff with approval of the Administrator.
Counsel, discipline, and evaluate staff performance.
Conduct daily rounds, monitor medication passes, and report changes in patient condition.
Place orders for supplies within budgetary guidelines.
Maintain reference library, support orientation program, and develop care plans.
Work with Administrator and Admissions Director on room assignments.
Participate in infection control, quality assurance, and department head meetings.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
Accept work assignment as directed by appropriate authority.
Assure Nursing procedures and protocols are followed and reviewed annually.
Directly supervise and instruct personnel to promote job knowledge.
Identify problems, develop, and implement solutions with Administration.
Ensure laboratory and x‑ray reports are received and filed.
Assist in developing written care plans and attend conferences.
Attend Customer and/or Family Council meetings and report concerns to Administrator.
Schedule and manage departmental work hours, personnel, and assignments.
Complete performance evaluations timely and conduct rounds.
Submit Workmen’s Compensation forms within 24 hours.
Plan, conduct, and participate in in‑service education programs.
Assist in implementing and maintaining orientation program for new staff.
Place orders for equipment and supplies following budgetary guidelines.
Maintain budgetary restraints by preparing purchase orders for review.
Maintain reference library of nursing materials.
Support Administrator and Admissions Director in admission selections.
Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules.
Ensure nursing personnel have valid and current licenses.
Ensure changes in patient condition are reported to family and physicians.
Attend departmental meetings as directed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Illinois and/or Wisconsin.
Minimum of one year nursing service administration experience.
Current CPR certificate or become certified within two weeks of employment.
Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures.
Proficient reading, writing, and speaking of English.
Independent decision‑making ability when warranted.
Ability to deal tactfully with customers, family members, visitors, personnel, government agencies, and the general public.
Leadership and supervisory ability; willingness to work harmoniously with personnel.
Personable, enthusiastic, and resourceful.
Physical Requirements
Move intermittently throughout the workday.
Coping with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics enabling these senses to function adequately.
Function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and ability to work effectively with customers, family members, personnel, and support agencies.
Good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
Relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people.
May be required to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, and customers in excess of 50 lbs throughout the day.
Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, including HIV, AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
