Job Description The Senior Research Technologist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

Performs all aspects of pre‑analytic workflow to ensure orders are entered correctly, specimens collected are appropriate for the test ordered and are correctly processed/transported.

Collects, receives, and processes specimens: verifies labeling, evaluates appropriateness, documents unacceptable specimens, and notifies as needed.

Performs specimen preparation: processes specimens per protocol, transfers or ships to approved testing locations.

Enters orders: verifies local lab test availability, generates orders.

Responsible for all aspects of analytical testing: maintains test system integrity, performs QC, evaluates QC results, and takes corrective actions.

Performs tests: prioritizes testing, completes within defined turnaround times, coordinates simultaneous tests, adjusts work for STAT tests, and uses independent judgment.

Performs technical review and interpretation: develops expertise, reviews results, provides accurate interpretations, performs visual identification, follows notification protocols.

Troubleshoots and solves problems: performs advanced troubleshooting, calls field service, understands maintenance agreements.

Performs all post‑analytic workflow: ensures accurate results reporting, specimen retention, billing accuracy, and availability of results on inquiry.

Specimen storage and transport: ensures correct storage, reviews pending logs, and follows up on shipments.

Universal responsibilities: monitors operations, escalates unresolved problems, maintains inventory, ensures regulatory compliance, initiates quality investigations, trains new employees, meets proficiency standards, participates in new test development, and provides continuing education.

Information systems: maintains LIS integrity, oversees instrument software updates, demonstrates IT expertise, and streamlines operations.

Ensures safety: follows safety procedures, uses PPE, maintains a clean work area, and escalates safety concerns.

Provides service excellence: answers phones, maintains PHI confidentiality, and assists patients, visitors and other contacts.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.

Required: 2‑3 years of experience working in a clinical or research laboratory (preferred).
