Criminal Defense Associate Attorney – Washington, DC
Scrofano Law PC is seeking an experienced Criminal Defense Associate Attorney to join our Washington, DC office. This role is designed for a defense lawyer who already knows the practice and wants to deepen their skills, work alongside respected trial attorneys, and grow into managing their own caseload within a mission-driven firm.
The Role This position offers a clear development path:
Initially, you will work closely with senior attorneys, assisting on active cases, court appearances, and litigation strategy
Over time, you will assume responsibility for your own caseload, with continued mentorship and support
This is
not an entry-level role . Candidates must have meaningful criminal law experience and be ready to contribute from day one.
Responsibilities
Assist senior attorneys on misdemeanor and felony criminal matters in DC
Gradually manage an independent caseload
Handle civil protection order (CPO) cases, DMV hearings, and motions to seal records
Appear regularly in court for hearings, motions, and conferences
Draft motions, pleadings, and legal memoranda
Communicate directly and compassionately with clients and families
Collaborate with attorneys, investigators, and support staff
Qualifications
Licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia
At least 3 years of criminal law experience
Experience practicing in Washington, DC courts
Strong courtroom presence and written advocacy skills
Sound judgment, professionalism, and attention to detail
Ability to work collaboratively while taking ownership of cases
Spanish fluency strongly preferred
Compensation and Benefits We offer competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package, including:
$90,000 – $120,000 salary, based on experience
