Job Description The Apheresis Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. Based on the NMH framework for practice, the registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of clinically competent, evidence‑based care for an assigned group of patients that includes diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing, the Code of Ethics, and the Nursing Social Policy Statement. As a member of the clinical care and unit team, the RN participates in decision‑making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve exceptional outcomes, and enhance unit operations.
Responsibilities
Perform emergent or scheduled urgent procedures during on‑call hours (8pm‑7:30a, weekends and holidays) when scheduled on call
Provide on‑call coverage as scheduled
Perform apheresis procedures in both ambulatory and inpatient settings
Assess patients pre, during, and post procedures and therapies to observe mild, moderate, and severe apheresis and non‑apheresis related complications and notify the appropriate provider to scale care
Deliver evidence‑based safe and effective care in a timely manner
Accurately document all pertinent procedure information in Epic
Ensure all consents and education have been completed prior to initiating a procedure or therapy
Maintain equipment preventative maintenance prior to use, disinfect machine, room surfaces, and equipment necessary for patient care according to policy
Assist with inventory control process
Maintain safe, neat, and adequately stocked supplies in patient rooms
Complete daily tasks when assigned in a timely manner
Act as a resource for other staff
Assist with training of newer staff
Review and adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements for standard of care procedures and clinical trials
Utilize assistive devices for patient care
Position involves moving of patients and/or equipment
Demonstrate ability to prioritize patient care and adapt to changes in assignment in response to new and urgent cases
Complete initial and annual trainings and competencies in cellular therapies, apheresis procedures, department services, and clinical trials
Independently perform cellular therapy collections and infusions
Demonstrate ability to maintain chain‑of‑custody and chain‑of‑identity when handling and managing products involving human tissue
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications Required
Graduate of an NLN accredited school/college of nursing
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or higher
Current State of Illinois, Registered Professional Nurse license
Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR through American Heart Association
Analytic ability (conceptual and quantitative)
Oral, listening and written communication skills
Strong human relation skills to interact effectively and collaborate with others in difficult situations
Use of a keyboard to enter or retrieve data
Preferred
Experience in specific clinical area
Nursing specialty certification, if eligible
