Ophthalmic Technician Supervisor

Base pay range: $69,888.00/yr - $111,831.00/yr
Position Summary Plans, supervises, and oversees the day-to-day activities of the Ophthalmology Technicians. Organizes and participates in staff recruitment, training, and scheduling; counsels and evaluates staff. Prepares and delegates work schedules and assignments. Oversees use and maintenance of equipment, physical space, and supply inventory and monitors related expenses.
Key Responsibilities
Performs specialized diagnostic ophthalmic testing, including skilled eye exams and administration of eye drops, under clinician supervision.
Trains and mentors staff, residents, and fellows on equipment use and testing techniques; supports skill development of less experienced personnel.
Supervises ophthalmology technicians, handling hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions in coordination with leadership.
Manages daily operations, including staff scheduling, workload prioritization, and maintaining communication with physicians to ensure efficient patient flow.
Oversees equipment and supply inventory, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and coordinating capital equipment planning.
Ensures regulatory compliance, conducting safety audits and promoting awareness of patient safety goals and hospital policies among staff.
Minimum Qualifications Education
High School Diploma/GED required
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Experience
5 years of experience as an ophthalmic technician or equivalent required
Experience in pediatric ophthalmology preferred
Licensure/ Certifications
Current registration as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) required
Current certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred
