Job Location: 369 PROGRESS DRIVE - MANCHESTER, CT 06042The Manufacturing Engineer I supports the development, optimization, and maintenance of manufacturing processes to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production of aerospace components and assemblies. This entry-level role works cross-functionally with production, quality, and design teams to troubleshoot issues, implement process improvements, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Process Development & Support
- Assist in developing and documenting manufacturing processes, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Support new product introductions (NPIs) by helping define manufacturing methods and material requirements.
- Provide day-to-day support for production activities, including troubleshooting equipment and process issues.
- Tooling and Equipment
- Collaborate with tool makers and technicians to ensure that tooling, fixtures, and gauges are designed and used properly.
- Help coordinate machine setup procedures and verify manufacturing readiness.
- Quality & Compliance
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions related to non-conformances or quality issues.
- Ensure compliance with aerospace standards such as AS9100, ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements.
- Assist with process capability studies, PFMEAs, and control plans.
- Continuous Improvement
- Participate in Lean, 5S, and Six Sigma initiatives to improve process efficiency and reduce waste.
- Help implement cost-saving initiatives and production improvements.
- Analyze production data to support productivity, yield, and throughput improvements.
- Technical Documentation & Communication:
- Create and maintain detailed manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, flowcharts, and process maps.
- Interface with design engineering, quality, supply chain, and production teams to resolve issues and communicate updates.
- Support ECNs (Engineering Change Notices) and implement revisions into production.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- Internship experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
Technical Skills:
- Familiarity with CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX) and basic GD&T concepts.
- Basic knowledge of machining, assembly, and/or fabrication processes.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read technical drawings, specs, and engineering documentation.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Work in both office and manufacturing floor environments.
- May involve standing, walking, and occasional use of ladders or tools on the shop floor.
- Exposure to noise, machinery, and aerospace manufacturing equipment.
- Use of PPE as required, including safety glasses, ear protection, and safety shoes.
