Qualifications

Basic Requirements

United States citizenship.

Medical degree (MD or DO) from an approved U.S. school.

Unrestricted state license to practice medicine.

Completed residency training accredited by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in a core specialty leading to board certification.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical requirements: moderate lifting (15–44 lbs), light lifting (under 15 lbs), walking and standing 6 hours, and other standard functional criteria.

Preferred Professional Experience

Two (2) years of recent VHA CHIO experience.

Completion of AMIA 10X10 course or equivalent Informatics Board Certification.

Lean 6‑Sigma Green Belt Certification or equivalent leadership training.

Duties

Open continuous announcement; remains open until June 11, 2026 or positions are filled.

Champion the overall operation and integration of clinical informatics processes for the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System.

Oversee administrative aspects of the Health Informatics Program, including budget, human resources, strategic planning, and program development.

Ensure quality, timeliness, and customer satisfaction while maintaining compliance with accrediting bodies such as The Joint Commission.

Inspire, motivate, and guide informatics staff to achieve strategic goals.

Collaborate with other Service Chiefs and program managers and report to the Chief of Staff.

Manage resources, advise leadership on technical and administrative challenges, and develop performance metrics.

Establish quality control measures and data collection activities for consult routing.

Lead organizational change initiatives, enhance EHR utilization, and support large‑scale information platform projects.

Work schedule: Monday through Friday, full time, 0800–1630.
