Department Description The Pre‑anesthesia (Preop) and Post‑Anesthesia Care Units (PACU) at Mission Bay provide dynamic and compassionate care for a wide variety of adult patients. The 30 combined Preop and PACU beds serve patients scheduled for general surgery, orthopedic oncology, breast, plastics, urology, gynecology (benign and oncology), radiation oncology, head and neck, colorectal and endoscopy. Preoperative care prepares patients for surgery, assures readiness, and provides teaching for patients and families. Postoperative care focuses on physiologic stabilization, innovative pain management, and family‑centered recovery. An interdisciplinary team—nurses, surgeons, specialty physicians, anesthesiologists, pain service physicians, respiratory therapists—works to initiate recovery in the inpatient or outpatient setting.
Required Qualifications
Two years of recent (in the past five years) RN experience in ICU nursing.
Two years of recent inpatient adult general Preop/PACU experience in an academic medical center.
Requires on‑call commitment.
Knowledge of airway management, anesthesia recovery, and pain management.
Must be able to bend, pull, and push up to 20 lbs.
Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Preferred Qualifications
CPAN or CCRN certification.
BSN degree.
License/Certification Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California. Active American Heart Association CPR Certification.
