The Role and the Team We are looking for a Sales Engineering Manager to lead a fast‑growing team of Sales Engineers focused on Data Security across the Americas Public Sector, Commercial segments and LATAM. The SEM will be customer‑facing, hands‑on technical, and will enable and empower the team to succeed. Preferred background in data security or risk & governance.

Responsibilities

Coach, enable, and empower a team of experienced Specialist Sales Engineers

Set shared goals, share information, and establish mentoring relationships

Ramp newer members on rules of engagement, build relationships with Specialist Sales Reps, provide technical training, and guide them to self‑sufficiency

Develop and mentor the team to help them achieve career goals, ideally within Proofpoint

Actively participate in escalations and resolve customer challenges

Partner with Recruiting and HR to attract, hire, and retain top talent

Be customer‑facing, frequently attend meetings with team members

Inspire SEs to refine storytelling, leverage field experience, and win scenarios

Collaborate with Sales, Professional Services, Support, Engineering, and Product Management to ensure effective operations and ongoing customer satisfaction

Formulate best practices for presentations, demos, and evaluations as well as overall sales strategy

Serve as a trusted advisor to higher‑level management on strategic opportunities, competitive threats, and product direction

Participate in ongoing technical training with the team

Advocate Proofpoint vision to customers and prospects at all levels

Occasionally engage directly with customers as an individual contributor

Build relationships with Sales Management, Sales Teams, Product and Marketing to grow accounts and prioritize technical features

Maintain accurate records of SE engagements and communicate to management

Provide regular cadence of feedback, skill development, and growth planning with SEs

Conduct periodic and yearly performance reviews

Collaborate with Professional Services and Customer Success to sustain outstanding customer experience

Become an expert in Proofpoint’s security and risk platform

Travel 25‑75% within the region

Qualifications

Minimum 2+ years leading/mentoring sales engineering teams, ideally in Data Security

Experience within a specialist/overlay sales structure

4‑6 years as a sales engineer

Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑energy environment

Solid understanding of the cybersecurity market landscape and competition, ideally in Data Security

Strong technical background in cyber‑security such as Enterprise DLP, Data Security Posture Management, Insider Threat Management

Excellent sales acumen and partnership with account teams

Lead‑from‑the‑front style, able to roll up sleeves and get technical

Independent, adaptable, positive attitude

Proven ability to command a room and lead complex technical and business conversations with C‑suite and technical staff

Bachelor’s or advanced degree in relevant field, or equivalent experience

CISSP or similar certification optional

Travel required
