Systems Engineer II – Design Assurance & Certification
Blue Origin invites you to join as a Systems Engineer focused on avionics hardware certification for crewed spaceflight. In this role you will contribute to the Lunar Permanence business unit, supporting NASA and partner programs to deliver safe human lunar landings and extend human presence beyond Earth.
Responsibilities
Decompose component functional and performance requirements.
Coordinate with Integration & Test personnel to develop and execute requirements verification and validation plans.
Work with safety engineers to evaluate hardware criticality and define design assurance and certification needs for various hardware items.
Develop and maintain hardware budgets and key technical performance measures.
Support trade studies and supply knowledge to guide design implementation and audit design artifacts to ensure adherence to design assurance requirements.
Facilitate and lead key milestone reviews across the full lifecycle of hardware development.
Identify and close gaps in existing processes, tools, infrastructure, and continually improve solutions along the way.
Ensure avionics components are certifiable for crewed spaceflight, developing hardware requirements, planning verification and validation campaigns, and generating key design lifecycle artifacts for hardware certification.
Qualifications
B.S. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or Physics.
Applied knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices such as requirements development and validation.
Experience with Engineering, PLM, and collaboration tools such as JAMA, JIRA, Confluence, Windchill, Creo, and SharePoint.
2+ years proven industry experience in the development of electronic hardware.
Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and support a culture of collaboration.

Desired
M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical subject area.
4+ years of space systems engineering or fungible experience in other highly complex industry areas (such as aerospace, medical, or automotive).
Experience in design, analysis, test, operation, and/or certification of aerospace safety critical systems.
Experience with software tools such as JAMA, MATLAB/Simulink, Confluence, JIRA, Git, Creo, and Windchill.
Experience with end-to-end product development, from concept definition to hardware integration.
Experience with complex electronic hardware and software certification in accordance with DO-254, DO-178, and/or similar design assurance standards.
Strong system safety and mission assurance fundamentals (including, but not limited to FMECAs, FTAs, and FHAs).
Compensation Range CO applicants $95,348.00–$133,486.50; WA applicants $104,015.00–$145,620.30
