Project Engineer Senior Staff – Entergy
Job Summary / Purpose As a key member of the Project Management team, the Project Engineer is responsible for the management and coordination of all technical aspects of new power generation capital projects. The role ensures engineering aligns with corporate goals and is complete, accurate and constructible for all elements of a project's scope. The Project Engineer oversees contractor’s engineering performance, coordinates all contractor and owner’s engineering interfaces, and ensures projects meet construction drawings, specifications, quality and performance requirements. The position works closely with the Project Manager and Project Controls Specialist to ensure process alignment and compliance.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
Promotes safe behavior in accordance with company expectations and safety rules on the project.
Identifies engineered safety controls and hazard removal during design and coaches to safe practices in the field.
Supports/Leads a cross‑functional team of internal Subject Matter Experts, Owner Engineers, EPC Contractors and Technical Consultants through development of the EPC contract, permitting, engineering, construction, commissioning and closeout.
Ensures documentation of engineering and construction quality is captured to support audit and prudency review.
Supports/Leads Owner team in writing official Records of Decision to capture prudency of major project decisions.
Acts as Contract Manager for engineering and construction contracts outside the EPC, including the Owner’s Engineer.
Performs/Manages the review of engineering design to assure compliance with the contract, permits, codes and utility standards while ensuring design supports project strategic, operational and maintenance goals.
Coordinates with the Project Manager in following the Project Delivery System and ensuring requirements are met and deliverables are produced.
Participates in contractor/vendor selection with a focus on assessing engineering experience, competencies and capability.
Supports/Leads the technical open‑book engineering process with contractors and applies value‑engineering concepts to keep projects competitive.
Assists contractors and vendors during design and construction to resolve technical queries and interfaces.
Ensures all firms providing engineering services are licensed in the state where the project is located.
Ensures project compliance with NERC and security standards.
Ensures all documents generated on the project are stored in the designated repository at closeout.
Supports/Leads/Follows change‑management process for any potential design changes.
Participates in equipment inspection activities as agreed with the Contractor.
Supports/Leads Owner review and sign‑off of System Turnover packages from construction to start‑up and from EPC to Owner.
Supports commissioning and ensures performance, reliability and emissions testing are completed per contract.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Instrument & Controls or Electrical Engineering (advanced degree preferred).
Minimum Experience Required
Project Engineer, Sr Lead: 10+ years of progressive professional experience (engineering design, construction or operation of instrument & controls, distributed control systems, turbine control systems and electrical systems); 8 years with a PE/PMP certification or master’s degree.
Project Engineer Sr Staff: 12+ years of progressive experience with 10 years bearing a PE/PMP certification or master’s degree.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office 360.
Strong interpersonal skills and leadership behaviors.
Expert knowledge of engineering fundamentals in at least one discipline (civil, mechanical, electrical, controls, chemical, construction).
Advanced knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology to power generation design.
Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in construction or repair of power generation facilities and associated QA/QC protocols.
Knowledge of permits required for construction and operation of power generation facilities.
Experience with reviewing, executing and managing large EPC contracts.
Advanced critical‑thinking skills and ability to use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternatives.
Adept in complex problem solving; able to identify complex problems and develop and evaluate options.
Desired Certificates, Licenses, Etc.
Professional Engineer license and PMP certification.
Primary Location Various locations across the United States (North‑East, Midwest, South, West). The extensive list includes cities such as New Orleans, LA; Mesa, AZ; various Arkansas and Texas cities; many other locations across all 50 states.
