Job Summary Under supervision, the Security Officer protects guests, employees, and company assets by monitoring and patrolling Santa Cruz Seaside Company facilities, anticipating potential incidents, and performing public relations duties as an information source for guests.
Schedule and Dates SCSC Academy dates:
Week 1: 2/21/26 and 2/22/26 (Saturday & Sunday)
Week 2: 2/28/26 and 3/1/26 (Saturday & Sunday)
Week 3: 3/7/25 and 3/8/26 (Saturday & Sunday)
Mandatory de‑escalation training : 3/11/26 (Wednesday)
Week 4: 3/14/26, 3/15/26 and 3/16/26 (Saturday, Sunday & Monday)
Week 5: 3/21/26 and 3/22/26 (Saturday & Sunday)
All officers must be available for all listed dates and work rotating 24‑hour shifts in a 7‑day operation.
Unique Job Requirements • Minimum 18 years of age.
• Pass a suitability assessment before hire.
• Wear approved safety gear: body armor, baton, pepper spray, handcuffs, flashlight, radio, and uniform.
• Must fill any assignment based on operational needs and provide excellent guest service.
• Overtime required.
• Maintain confidentiality.
Training and Experience • Minimum one year experience working with the public as a Security Officer Trainee.
• Law‑enforcement knowledge or Admin. of Justice classes are desirable.
• Priority given to Police Academy graduates.
• Trainee level requires 120 hours of training (orientation, in‑service training, job shadowing, written/verbal tests, CPR, AED, First Aid, guard card).
• Officer level is a seasonal solo security officer.
Job Tasks (Order of Importance)
Protect guests and assets in a professional and friendly manner.
Patrol and inspect assigned areas (foot, bicycle, vehicle, or Segway).
Recognize potential and existing problems, then take rapid, calm, appropriate action.
Pursue, apprehend, detain, and arrest suspects, as directed.
Perform public relations duties and act as an information source for guests.
Manage large crowds in a firm and friendly manner.
Respond to calls from any area of the company.
May be required to restrain, detain, and arrest potentially violent persons.
Provide first aid, CPR, and use an AED as needed.
Convey lost children to meeting points and reunite them with guardians.
Transport and protect cash; pick up, document, and deliver cash.
Conduct and complete incident investigations and written reports.
Assist law enforcement in difficult or violent situations.
Stand watch at boardwalk entrances.
Escort and protect company employees/guests to vehicles or other locations.
Operate a computer to complete accurate reports.
Operate electronic access control and CCTV systems.
Attend training and briefing sessions.
Operate motor vehicles as needed.
Interview witnesses/victims and search for physical evidence.
Maintain confidentiality.
Prevent crime and report criminal behavior.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Understand human motivation and behavior principles.
• Make quick, effective, and calm decisions in emergencies, including those involving potential violence.
• Learn property layout quickly.
• Apply state and local laws and company standards.
• Follow oral and written instructions.
• Handle strenuous physical activity (walking, standing, subduing disruptive guests).
• Work around large groups while maintaining friendly guest service.
• Use positive public relations and de‑escalation techniques.
• Obtain and maintain CPR, AED, First Aid certificates.
• Physically restrain, control, or subdue suspects.
• Operate radio communication equipment.
• Work alone/unsupervised during dark hours, adverse weather, and high activity periods.
• Meet chemical agent OC and baton usage requirements.
• Meet state security guard registration requirements.
• Operate a computer for reports.
• Investigate incidents and write clear, accurate, detailed reports.
• Interview, observe, and retain facts from incidents.
• Interact with the public in a friendly manner and maintain control in adverse situations.
Physical Requirements
Able to walk up to 5 miles per day, run, and stand for long periods.
Able to lift and carry up to 55 pounds.
Good vision (correctable to 20/30 with lenses or contacts).
Bi‑manual dexterity.
Perform heavy strenuous work (running, bending, raising bags of coins, restraining suspects, assisting injured persons).
Able to hear normal conversations on phone, radio, and in person.
Licenses and Insurance • Valid U.S. Driver’s license with DMV printout.
• First Aid, AED, CPR certification after hire.
• Baton and chemical agent certifications.
• Security Guard License within 30 days of hire (BSIS).
Testing • Eye exam (color perception test).
• Writing test and pre‑hire suitability assessment (background check, DMV printout, privacy/confidentiality policy, on‑duty meal period).
Reporting Reports to: Security Manager, Security Supervisor, Security Lead/FTO.
Direct supervision: N/A.
Supervises through subordinates: N/A.
Relationships Internal: Interacts with all levels of Santa Cruz Seaside Company employees.
External: Interacts with guests and law enforcement agencies.
