The Cardiology Section at VA Boston Healthcare System invites applications for a fee basis appointment as a Cardiac Surgeon. Services will be performed primarily out of the Jamaica Plain VA Medical Center and occasionally at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center. There is an aggregate limit of $400,000, meaning you cannot make over $400,000 in a calendar year; this includes all combined appointments.
Responsibilities The Cardiac Surgery Section at VA Boston Healthcare System is seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Surgeon with specialty expertise in Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) implantation and management, as well as proficiency in other advanced cardiac surgical procedures. The surgeon will perform LVAD implantation and related interventions, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repair or replacement, and other complex cardiac surgeries as required. Responsibilities include collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes, participating in pre‑operative planning, intra‑operative management, and post‑operative care, and providing consultative expertise for complex cardiac cases.
Qualifications Candidates must be board‑certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery, possess demonstrated experience in LVAD implantation and advanced cardiac surgery, and hold a current, unrestricted U.S. medical license.
Work Schedule This fee‑basis position involves intermittent tours based on service needs and provider availability, with possible weekend or evening coverage required unless specifically requested for patient care needs.

LVAD Insertion (with CPB)/Insertion of VAD, extra‑corporeal, with cardiopulmonary bypass - $1,200
LVAD Insertion (without CPB)/Insertion of VAD, extra‑corporeal, without cardiopulmonary bypass - $1,450
LVAD Replacement/Replacement of VAD, extra‑corporeal - $1,750
Intra‑corporeal VAD Insertion/Insertion of VAD, intra‑corporeal - $2,000
