## **Category:**Science## **Lab/Area:**Marson Lab## ## **Description:****Who we are:**The Gladstone Institutes is a distinguished independent, not-for-profit research institution dedicated to advancing human health through cutting-edge medical research and education. Our work spans neuroscience, cardiovascular biology, immunology, and stem cell biology, with a focus on overcoming disease. With a team of approximately 600 members, including renowned leaders in science and biomedicine, Gladstone operates across five institutes, alongside various centers and programs. Located at the Mission Bay Campus in an award-winning building, Gladstone offers competitive salaries and benefits, providing an optimal environment for individuals to realize their full potential and make a meaningful impact on global health**About the role:**The Gladstone-UCSF Institute of Genomic Immunology is recruiting a Research Associate (RA) to help perform studies related to genetic engineering and functional assessment of T cell therapies. Our institute has pioneered the application of novel genetic engineering technologies such as CRISPR to primary human immune cells. These new technical abilities have furthered our research into the genetic control of T cell biology as well as opened the door to novel cancer immunotherapies based on engineered human immune cells. This individual would be part of a preclinical research team under the direction of Justin Eyquem (UCSF) streamlining the generation, benchmarking, and functional assessment of genetically engineered human T cell therapies for cancer and inflammatory disease.**What you will do:**The RA will be responsible to execute various in vitro and in vivo studies, including cell engineering and evaluation, tumor engraftment and assessment, tissue process and analysis. Additional responsibilities will consist of isolation and culture of primary human T cells, as well as functional analysis of engineered cells via flow cytometry, cellular assays, Sanger sequencing, next-generation DNA sequencing, Single-Cell RNA sequencing. The technician’s role will also include hand-on collaboration with various labs employing xenograft and humanized mouse models.

Strong organizational and communication skills are required.* Develop cell therapy candidates through in vitro and in vivo experiments* In vivo activity is the primary responsibility, including tumor and immune cell* engraftment and assessment, tissue dissection (e.g. spleen, bone marrow, lymph* nodes, engrafted tumors) for downstream analysis* Cell engineering and culturing, including primary immune cells and cancer cells* Cloning and other molecular biology tasks* Maintain and ensure safe laboratory environment and work practices. Follow* standard operating procedures (SOP) and IACUC protocols.* Work collaboratively across a dynamic scientific environment**What you will need:*** BS / BA or MS in cellular Biology, immunology, or related field preferred* New graduates with a commitment to learning are welcomed to apply* Experience with general laboratory techniques, especially basic molecular and cellular biology techniques (including but not limited to DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA assembly, bacterial transformation, mammalian cell culture, etc.)* Experience with animal studies, including basic animal care, tumor assessment, tissue processing, and humanized mouse models is highly desired* Experience with T cell engineering using viral and non-viral gene editing technologies, including retroviral vectors, AAV, RNA/RNP electroporation and evaluation via multicolor flow cytometry, proliferation, cytokine production, phenotyping assays* Experience with library design, screening and NGS sequencing is a plus* Excellent attention to detail, organizational and interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written)* Willingness and ability to learn new methods and proactive at troubleshooting and optimization* Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team* Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate work tasks with others, and meet multiple deadlines* Ability to comply with policies and procedures* Some evening and weekend hours are required**Salary Range:**$28-$33/hr.**Gladstone Perks & Benefits*** *People*–work with talented, committed, and supportive teammates within an organization that values each member of its community.* *A meaningful place to grow and learn*–whether it’s your professional skills or scientific knowledge, we have the resources and environment to advance either so you can better support Gladstone’s mission to drive a new era of discovery in disease-oriented science and to mentor tomorrow’s leaders in an inspiring and excellent environment.* *Healthy work/life balance*–you are highly engaged and productive at work because you can have time to recharge and enjoy a vibrant life outside of work.* *Compensation*–competitive salary. Title and salary will be commensurate with education and experience.* *Excellent benefits*–generous medical, dental, vision, retirement plan, paid vacation, commuter benefits, access to free shuttle transportation.Gladstone is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, sex, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, medical condition, physical or mental disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, or any other non-job related characteristic.
