Lead Hardware Engineering

SEC is seeking a strategic and technically strong Lead Hardware Engineering Leader to oversee the development of ruggedized electronics, displays, and computing systems for mission critical defense and aerospace programs. This role owns the full hardware development lifecycle from concept and design through production while ensuring all solutions meet rigorous performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in electronic hardware design, a proven track record leading high performing engineering teams, and a commitment to driving innovation in high reliability, high stakes environments.

  • Responsibilities: Lead the design, development, analysis, and validation of complex digital, analog, mixed?signal, and power electronics for ruggedized computing and display platforms.
  • Provide technical leadership and hands?on contributions across circuit architecture, PCB layout, signal integrity, thermal analysis, component selection, and qualification testing.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental and electrical standards, including MIL?STD?810, MIL?STD?461, DO?160, and program?specific customer requirements.
  • Partner closely with Mechanical, Software, Systems, Test, and Manufacturing Engineering teams to deliver integrated, optimized system?level solutions.
  • Establish, reinforce, and continuously improve engineering best practices, including structured design reviews, documentation standards, configuration control, and quality processes.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop engineering staff; support succession planning and skills development across the department.
  • Act as the senior hardware technical authority for proposals, product roadmaps, technology insertions, and key customer engagements.
  • Manage project plans, resource assignments, risk mitigation, and department budgets to meet organizational and program objectives.
  • Support production transition activities, including root?cause analysis, corrective actions, and supplier engagement to resolve technical issues.

  • Qualifications: Demonstrated expertise in high-speed digital circuit design, power supply architecture, and
  • embedded hardware development.
  • In-depth knowledge of ruggedization techniques, thermal management strategies, and EMI/EMC mitigation practices.
  • Proficient in industry-standard design tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, or equivalent ECAD platforms.
  • Strong familiarity with relevant environmental and electrical compliance standards, including MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and DO-160.
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional engineering teams and managing complex projects within multidisciplinary development environments, utilizing New Product Introduction (NPI) phase gate processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in hardware design and development, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Experience within the defense, aerospace, and/or rugged electronics sectors is highly desirable.
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful immigration status required, and eligibility to obtain a security clearance may be required.
