About the Role

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day rolling stock and light rail manufacturing operations, ensuring safety, quality, productivity, and employee engagement within assigned production areas. This position plays a critical role in meeting customer commitments, optimizing resources, and driving continuous improvement across processes and teams.


Key Responsibilities


Production Supervision

  • Plan and direct daily production activities for railcar refurbishment, overhaul, and modification projects, schedules, staffing and priorities to meet delivery and quality targets.
  • Monitor progress against established goals, identifying variances and developing recovery plans for schedule, cost, and quality performance.
  • Ensure efficient use of manpower, machines, and equipment while maintaining a high standard of product quality.
  • Coordinate production activities with cross-functional teams such as Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, and Warehouse.

Safety and Compliance

  • Enforce all safety protocols and ensure employees are properly trained and certified.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, maintain a clean and organized work environment, and drive compliance with 5S principles.
  • Promote a culture of zero incidents through proactive hazard identification and corrective actions.


People Leadership

  • Supervise, coach, and develop production staff to achieve individual and team performance goals.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations in coordination with HR, providing constructive feedback and development plans.
  • Foster a positive, motivated, and collaborative work environment that supports employee engagement and retention.


Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with Methods, Engineering, and Quality teams to enhance process efficiency, work cell optimization, and overall throughput.
  • Lead daily production meetings to review safety, quality, material availability, and improvement opportunities.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to increase productivity, reduce waste, and strengthen quality.


Reporting and Analysis

  • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs), including productivity, efficiency, and labor utilization.
  • Review and approve employee time reports to ensure accurate project and cost tracking.
  • Support long-term production planning and capacity forecasting.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or Business preferred.
  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience in rail manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of production processes, quality standards, and ERP or manufacturing software systems.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing production needs.
