Job Summary
Under general supervision, serve as secretary to the principal of a middle school; assist the principal by relieving him/her of responsible clerical detail; perform a variety of difficult and complex clerical tasks; and do related work as required.
Qualifications
- A.A. degree or equivalent required;
- Four years of progressively responsible clerical experience with at least two years in a responsible secretarial capacity, preferably in a school district;
- Proficient computer ability and comfort with software and databases (Word and Excel);
- Current history of employer evaluations with satisfactory marks in all areas;
- Experience demonstrating tact, courtesy, positive attitude and maintaining cooperative relationships;
- Bilingual Spanish desired.
Responsibilities
- Secretarial support to the middle school principal and school administrators;
- Supervise, coordinate and help perform a wide variety of difficult clerical work;
- Manage and organize daily staff substitutes – certificated and classified;
- Receive and screen visitors and phone calls;
- Maintain the principal’s confidential files and calendar;
- Make arrangements for meetings and other functions;
- Interview callers and confer with parents and teachers in person or by telephone;
- Give general and specific information to teachers, students, and the public on the policies and procedures of the school;
- Guide and instruct other clerical employees in their work;
- Check reports, records, and other material for accuracy, completeness, and conformity with established standards;
- Compose correspondence or reports on own initiative or from marginal notes or oral or written directions.
