SUMMARY

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing production operations across multiple confectionery processing areas including gummy and hard candy manufacturing. This position ensures that safety, quality, productivity, and sanitation standards are maintained while leading daily activities in kitchen operations, moguls, curing, sanding, oiling, hard candy lines, manual packaging, and automated case packing. This position is available for 1st and 2nd shift.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Production Oversight

  • Coordinate production operations across all process areas: Kitchen, Moguls, Cure Rooms, Sanding/Oiling, Hard Candy line, and Packaging.
  • Ensure daily production schedules are met and adjust labor or process flow as needed.
  • Oversee start-up, shutdowns, and changeovers.
  • Interprets job orders to workers and assigns duties.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.

Food Safety & Quality

  • Enforce GMP, HACCP, allergen control, and sanitation procedures in all areas.
  • Ensure compliance with internal QA programs and external regulatory requirements (FDA, FSMA).
  • Work with QA to resolve non-conformances or quality concerns in real time.
  • Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of machines.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Responsible for safety of work areas; Safety of employees and first responder to all work-related accidents.
  • Compliance with all SQF certification requirements.
  • Demonstrates commitment to food safety and continuous improvements.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, coach, and schedule line operators, packers, and technicians.
  • Promote safe working habits and conduct regular safety talks or audits.
  • Manage employee performance, training, and discipline according to company policies.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Ensure that all workers are properly trained and responsibilities are defined and understood.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Interview and collaboration in the selection of new employees.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.

Equipment & Process

  • Ensure proper operation and cleaning of moguls, kitchen kettles, depositors, sanding/oiling drums, and packaging lines.
  • Coordinate with maintenance on preventative maintenance and minor troubleshooting.
  • Monitor automated case packer operation and support packaging flow and uptime.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate production records, batch reports, downtime logs, and traceability documentation.
  • Contribute to production meetings with updates on shift performance and any issues or trends.
  • Contribute to developing SOPs.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department and/or work crew.
  • All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1 to 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees in the Production area. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with proficiency in Word and Excel. Ability to learn other application software is essential to performing job tasks.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
